Since 2011, Hoag Levins has been the Digital Editor of Web Publications at the University of Pennsylvania’s Leonard Davis Institute of Health Economics (LDI). Prior to that he spent a career as a newspaper and magazine reporter, editor, photographer, and videographer in Philadelphia, Manhattan, and Washington, D.C. An early entrant to the era of digital publications, Levins built his first website in 1995 and the following year was recruited to be the first web editor of Editor & Publisher, the weekly journal of the U.S. newspaper industry. He was later the founding executive editor of APBnews.com, one of the first online ventures to build a large-scale national digital news operation anchored in traditional journalism principles and practices. When APBnews went down in the dot.com bust of the early 2000s, Levins was recruited to be a senior editor and producer of the new AdAge.com domain at Advertising Age magazine. Nine years later, when Ad Age’s parent company was drastically downsized in media industry upheavals, Levins was recruited to Washington, D.C., to be Executive Editor of Capitol News Connection, a Capitol Hill newsroom backed by the Corporation for Public Broadcasting that produced text, photo, and video Congressional news content for the websites of four dozen middle-market public radio stations across the country.
